U.S. Army Air Force command has ordered continuation of the long-range strategic bombing against industrial targets inside Germany. Your orders are to escort a bomber group toward the wartime industry at Schweinfurt. Travel as far as your fuel will allow, but your fighters will be forced to break and return to base before the bombers reach the target. The bombers are heavily armed and air force doctrine tells us that they should be able to defend themselves. While with the bombers, maintain close contact and enter combat only with enemy aircraft that pose a direct threat to the bombers.
This is an important raid. You have eight P-47D-1 Thunderbolt fighters under your command. You will escort eight B-17F Flying Fortress heavy bombers.
